Stations of the Cross
Year 5 and 6 led their Stations of the Cross Assembly this morning. Some children acted out each station, whilst others led us in prayers and reflections about what we can do to embrace Jesus's sacrifice in our lives.
Year 6 Mayan Workshop
8.1.24
On our first day back, Year 6 had a wonderful time starting our new topic about the Ancient Mayan Civilisation with an amazing workshop! We learnt all about the different ways the Mayans would sacrifice people to the Gods, how to play the ancient game of Pok-A-Tok, as well as learning to count to 10 in the Mayan language. We put our maths skills to the test completing calcuations with Mayan numbers, then had the opportunity to sketch Mayan artefacts whilst learning what they were used for. We can't forget our highlight: trying chocolate similar in taste to what the Mayans would have had; unfortunately, most of us weren't a fan. We all loved taking part in some drama to learn more about the Mayan culture and some of their famous stories - even Miss Pratt and Mrs Harkin dressed up!
Thank you for a wonderful day! We can't wait to learn more.
🤖 EKO STEM Workshop 🤖
Today Year 5 & 6 were able to take part in an amazing EKO STEM workshop led by Rob and Jack from Hyett Education. We had a chance to build our own robots, following careful instructions to connect motors and wheels; then we had the chance to customise them by adding sensors, lights and lots more.
Our coding skills were put to the test as we had to build algorithms to help our robots navigate the tricky paths laid out. We used lots of trial and improvement to debug our codes to make it all the way through.
Once we had mastered our coding, Jack and Rob challenged us to customise our robots so they would be able to collect the minature nuclear waste cannisters and rocks. We added extra motors and arms, used gears and levers, and some of us even managed to code our robots to pick the waste up and drive away. We had a fantastic morning: take a look at some of our amazing robots below.
Our Trip to Manchester Central Library
⚡Celebrate Harry Potter⚡
Year 6 were lucky enough to be invited to Manchester Central Library to take part in a 'Celebrate Harry Potter' day. We got to meet and learn about some different owls that wizards from around the world might use. We were even lucky enough to hold one! Scroll down to see our owl gallery. We were then able to make our own magic potions that bubbled and boiled over our cauldrons. Finally, we put our maths skills to the test to escape the Room of Requirement.
♻️Year 6 Trip to Longley Lane Recycling Centre ♻️
Year 6 had the opportunity to go to Longley Lane Recycling Centre as part of our topic ' Save the World'.
We were able to tour the machine that sorts our brown bin waste and see how it uses different technology to separate each material. We put our recycling skills to the test as we sorted rubbish into the correct bins and locations, as well as trying to reach the high score on the Recycle It quiz on the iPads. After watching a video on how lots of our recycling is made from natural materials, we went on a scavenger hunt around the room to find the natural materials and the resources they are made into. We even managed to complete our sorting sheet and wordsearch.

Once per month a prize draw is run that will identify one entry as a winner and they will receive a prize. Click here to view the gallery and gain ideas.
Design & Technology
As part of our Design and Technology work this term, Year 6 are beginning to learn to sew. We practised threading needles, cutting threads and planning out a simple running stitch. We had great fun and can't wait to try our more stitches soon!
