Our Leaver's Mass

17.7.24

Today we led the rest of our school in final Mass. It was lovely to come together as a faith community one final time before we move on to high school in September. We received our Faith in Action certificates and prayer cross blessed by Father David. A huge thank you to the parents who also joined us today.

Wythenshawe Catholic Cluster Leavers' Mass

15.7.24

Today we walked to Sacred Heart to join the other Wythenshawe Catholic schools in celebrating mass. Different children from each of the six schools helped lead the Mass with Fr Owen. We had a wonderful time coming together one last time as a cluster.

Air Raid Shelter

28.6.24

Today we had an amazing time at Stockport Air Raid Shelters.

We took part in a tour through some of the tunnels, learning all about how people would have spent time there. We had the chance to see the Sick Bay as well as the Nurses tunnel, as well as try out a model Anderson shelter which was a bit of a squeeze.

We even practiced singing some war-time songs like Run Rabbit and Who's that knocking at the window?

After exploring the Air Raid Shelter, we walked over to the Museum, where we had the chance to learn more about life during WWII Air Raids.  After hearing the Air Raid siren, we got to work! We practised putting on our Gas Masks whilst listening to the gas rattle, try on real soldier's helmets and handle lots of interesting artefacts including Air Raid lanterns and what would have been Firebombs, Some of us even got to try a Morrison shelter!

We then went upstairs to learn all about clothing in WWII and how people in Britain were able to get new clothes whilst there was rationing. We practised our chores to make sure we were ready to be picked by our new families who would look after us during this time of evacuation.

Inflatable Fun!

21.6.24

As part of our National School Sports Week, today we were lucky enough to have the chance to play on a giant inflatable in our hall. We got to race each other and try to work out the best way to clamber up.

First Aid Training

19.6.24

As part of our PSHE work on keeping ourselves safe, this afternoon we spent a few hours learning all about First Aid.

We got the chance to practice putting each other in the recovery position, as well as learning how to perform CPR.

We put our skills to the test to earn our Gold First Aid Award.

Well done everyone!

Sports Day

18.6.24

Today we had a fantastic time taking part in our final Sports Day at St Peter's. We wore our House colours to compete, and got the chance to take part in six fun activities, including our personal favourite: Tug of War!

Miss Pratt also threw in some weird and wacky races, like the beanbag on tummy race or the backwards relay!

Thank you to all of the parents who turned up to watch us, and an extra special mention to those who took part in our parent's Tug of War. It was lovely to see so many of you get involved.

Visit to the Imperial War Museum

24.5.24

Today we were lucky enough to go and visit the Imperial War Museum. We spent some time looking around the main exhibit, learning what each exhibit was about, and trying to find different items, such as things that were taller than us, or even animals. We then got to take part in an amazing activity called Ministry of Memory, where we had to protect the museum from 'Memory Scramblers' and help Agent M remember all about Remembrance. We hunted for clues around the museum and acted out different ways we can remember those who have died during conflict. After lunch, we completed a scavenger hunt around the museum, trying to answer different questions and find clues to help us find our missing words. We all had a fantastic day!

Final Faith in Action Reflection

23.5.24

Today, we completed our final reflection for our Faith in Action Award. We have worked very hard this year to achieve our 'Pin' level and cannot wait to recieve our certificates.

We spent the morning reflecting on our Faith in Action Journey, including our favourite activities and moments. We listened and reflected on the word of God.

We then spent time learning about Saint Oscar Romero and reflecting on how he impacted the world. We then created our own Oscar Romero crosses in rembrance.

Visit to the Marist Centre

21.5.24

As part of our Faith in Action award, today we attended a transition day at the Marist Centre. We completed lots of fun activities, reflecting on our favourite memories of our time at school, as well as thinking of ways to help us prepare for High School. We role played some key journeys from the Bible, and looked at the way that different journeys can be difficult.

Litter Pick

17.5.24

As part of our Faith in Action award, today we completed a litter pick around our school grounds, where we collected nearly four bags of rubbish! We found lots of things in the forest area and can't wait to have another go at clearing it out next time. We used our litter pickers and made sure to wash our hands when we came in.

🧑🏻‍🚒🧯👩🏽‍🚒Fire Service Visit🚒👨🏿‍🚒🔥

29.4.24

Today firefighters from our local fire station in Wythenshawe came in to talk to us about how to keep ourselves safe if there is a fire. We learnt all about fire science and what is needed for a fire to start and keep burning. We then talked about how important it is to test our fire alarms every month, and have a good bedtime routine that includes making sure all inside doors are shut and the floor is clear in case we need to get out of the house quickly.

We watched a video about the impact of intentional fires and how they can cause lots of damage or even hurt people. We talked about how important it is to be able to call 999 in case of an emergency and how they're there to keep us safe and help us. The firefighters then talked about what a hoax call was and the consequences of making them.

We then got to go outside and look at the fire truck. Some of us got to turn the lights on, try the siren, beep the horn or even use the fire hose.

🌎World Day🌎

Today we had an exciting day learning lots about our planet. We explored what global warming is and how it links to climate change. We discussed some of the main causes of climate change and came up with some ideas about how we can tackle these causes of climate change and how our government and people around the world can help too! Take a look below at some of our suggestions!

We also had a fantastic time at our BIFA workshop, learning about where the raw materials for plastic comes from, and making sure we understand which material goes in each of our recycling bins. We were also lucky enough to learn about how the new electric waste vehicles work, and even got a chance to sit in them.

Take a look at some of the fantastic art we created to help people learn how to conserve water and help people to understand the consequences of global warming and climate change on water!

Stations of the Cross

Year 5 and 6 led their Stations of the Cross Assembly this morning. Some children acted out each station, whilst others led us in prayers and reflections about what we can do to embrace Jesus's sacrifice in our lives

Year 6 Mayan Workshop

8.1.24

On our first day back, Year 6 had a wonderful time starting our new topic about the Ancient Mayan Civilisation with an amazing workshop! We learnt all about the different ways the Mayans would sacrifice people to the Gods, how to play the ancient game of Pok-A-Tok, as well as learning to count to 10 in the Mayan language. We put our maths skills to the test completing calcuations with Mayan numbers, then had the opportunity to sketch Mayan artefacts whilst learning what they were used for. We can't forget our highlight: trying chocolate similar in taste to what the Mayans would have had; unfortunately, most of us weren't a fan. We all loved taking part in some drama to learn more about the Mayan culture and some of their famous stories - even Miss Pratt and Mrs Harkin dressed up!

Thank you for a wonderful day! We can't wait to learn more.

🤖 EKO STEM Workshop 🤖

Today Year 5 & 6 were able to take part in an amazing EKO STEM workshop led by Rob and Jack from Hyett Education. We had a chance to build our own robots, following careful instructions to connect motors and wheels; then we had the chance to customise them by adding sensors, lights and lots more.

Our coding skills were put to the test as we had to build algorithms to help our robots navigate the tricky paths laid out. We used lots of trial and improvement to debug our codes to make it all the way through.

Once we had mastered our coding, Jack and Rob challenged us to customise our robots so they would be able to collect the minature nuclear waste cannisters and rocks. We added extra motors and arms, used gears and levers, and some of us even managed to code our robots to pick the waste up and drive away. We had a fantastic morning: take a look at some of our amazing robots below.

Our Trip to Manchester Central Library

 ⚡Celebrate Harry Potter

Year 6 were lucky enough to be invited to Manchester Central Library to take part in a 'Celebrate Harry Potter' day. We got to meet and learn about some different owls that wizards from around the world might use. We were even lucky enough to hold one! Scroll down to see our owl gallery. We were then able to make our own magic potions that bubbled and boiled over our cauldrons. Finally, we put our maths skills to the test to escape the Room of Requirement.

♻️Year 6 Trip to Longley Lane Recycling Centre ♻️

Year 6 had the opportunity to go to Longley Lane Recycling Centre as part of our topic ' Save the World'.

We were able to tour the machine that sorts our brown bin waste and see how it uses different technology to separate each material. We put our recycling skills to the test as we sorted rubbish into the correct bins and locations, as well as trying to reach the high score on the Recycle It quiz on the iPads. After watching a video on how lots of our recycling is made from natural materials, we went on a scavenger hunt around the room to find the natural materials and the resources they are made into. We even managed to complete our sorting sheet and wordsearch.

Click here to complete our online quiz. Don't forget to put our code in at the end. 1023SPY6.

The Recycle for Greater Manchester Gallery:

Recycle for Greater Manchester also run competitions. Primary school aged children can create a piece of artwork based on reuse and recycling. Parents/carers can upload an image of the project to the gallery on Recycle for Greater Manchester’s website. Once per month a prize draw is run that will identify one entry as a winner and they will receive a prize. Click here to view the gallery and gain ideas.

Design & Technology

As part of our Design and Technology work this term, Year 6 are beginning to learn to sew. We practised threading needles, cutting threads and planning out a simple running stitch. We had great fun and can't wait to try our more stitches soon!
